Cillian Murphy has denied whispers that he’s been tapped to play Lord Voldemort in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Murphy said he’s not involved and that rumors mostly reach him through his children, who occasionally point them out.

He added that following Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal would be a tall order, praising Fiennes as an acting legend and wishing whoever takes the part well.

The series’ central trio will be played by Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) and Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger).

Draco Malfoy is cast as Lox Pratt, with Johnny Flynn set to play Draco’s father, Lucius Malfoy.

John Lithgow will take on Albus Dumbledore, while Janet McTeer is cast as Professor Minerva McGonagall.

Paapa Essiedu is Severus Snape and Nick Frost will portray Rubeus Hagrid.

Bertie Carvel has been cast as Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge.

The Dursleys are represented by Bel Powley (Petunia) and Daniel Rigby (Vernon).

Warwick Davis returns to the role of Professor Filius Flitwick, a part he originated in the films.

Additional supporting casting includes Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe and William Nash as Gregory Goyle.

The HBO adaptation is expected to arrive in 2027.
