Mateka wanaeleza kwamba baada ya mpambano ya risasi kuanza huko nje ya terminal waliwaona watekaji kadhaa wakiongozwa na yule aliyeonekana kama kiongozi wao, Wilfred Bose waliingia ndani ya terminal wakiwa wanahaha kama wamechanganyikiwa wasijue wafanye nini, ilionekana dhahiri kuwa walikuwa hawajajiandaa kwa hili shambulio la ghafla, ilionekana dhahiri kwamba katika akili yao walikuwa wanasubiria Israel kutimiza masharti yao ili waweze kuachia mateka. Kuna muda Wilfred Bose alionekana kunyoonya bunduki yake kwa mateka kama vile anawataka kuwamininia risasi lakini alikuwa anashindwa kufanya uamuzi huo. Bose aligeuka ghafla baada ya kusikia kishindo cha mlango wa terminal ukifunguliwa. Makomando wa Israel walikuwa wametumia weledi na ustadi wao wa hali ya juu kuingia ndani ya terminal kwa muda sahihi kabla ya Wilfred Bose na wenzake kufanya uamuzi wowote wa kuua mateka. Makomando wa Israel walipoingia tu ndani ya terminal, mmoja wao mkononi walikuwa na kipaza sauti aina ya ‘megaphone’ na alikuwa anaongeea kwa nguvu kwa lugha ya kihebrania, “Lay down, Lay down. We are Israel soldiers. Lay down. Lay down!!”. Mateka wote wa kiisrael hata wale waliokuwa wamekaa kitako walilala chini, hivyo ndani ya sekunde chache tu kila mtu ambaye alibakia amesimama alikuwa ni halali yao kumtandika risasi. Kwa bahati mbaya kulikuwa na mateka kadhaa ambao wwalikuwa hawajui kihebreania sawia na hii iliwagharimu sana. Kwa mfano kulikuwa na kijana wa mika 19 aliyeitwa Jean-Jacques Maimoni, huyu alikuwa amehamia Israel siku si nyingi sana kutokea nchini ufaransa. Lilipotolewa tangazo hilo la kila mtu kulala chini hakuelewa na alibakia akiwa amesimama na alitandikwa risasi na makomando wa Israel pamoja na wale watekaji. Kijana huyu hakuwa peke yake, lakini pia kulikuwa na mateka mwingine aliyeitwa Ida Borochovitch, ambaye alihamia Israel kutoka nchini Urusi. Risasi zilirindima kwa takribani dakika mbili nzima na baadae ukimya wa kama sekunde 15 ukatawala na moja wa makomando wa kiisrael akauliza kwa kiebrania, “where are the rest of them?” (“wako wapi wengine?”). Mateka wakaonyesha kidole kwenye chumba kidogo kilichopo pembeni. Makomando wakarusha mabomu kadhaa ya kutupa kwa mkono na kisha kuingia ndani ya chumba hicho na kuwamiminia risasi wote ambao walikuwa humo. Milio ya risasi ndani ya terminal hatimaye ilikuwa imekoma japo bado huko nje walisikia majibizano ya risasi. Mwanajeshi mmoja wa Israel kati ya wale waliopo ndani ya terminal, kwa sauti ya utulivu kabisa na katika lugha ya kihebrania aliwatangazia mateka, “listen guys, we’ve come to take you home!” (“sikilizeni, tumekuja kuwachukua kuwarudisha nyumbani!”). Baada ya hapo makomando walianza kuwatoa mateka kutoka kwenye terminal na kuwapakia kwenye ndege kwa tahadhari kubwa huku wale wenzao wengine wakiendelea kuwadhibiti wanajeshi wa Uganda waliokuwa wanarusha risasi kutoka kwenye maeneo ya kujificha ndani ya uwanja wa ndege. Wakiwa wanaendelea kuwapakia mateka waliowaokoa kwenye ndege, kumbe kulikuwa na mwanajeshi wa Uganda amebakia juu kwenye mnara wa uongozaji (airport control tower). Kwa mujibu wa taarifa za hivi karibunui kutoka kwa mtoto wa Idd Amin anasema kwamba mwanajeshi huyu alikuwa ni binamu wa Idd Amin. Kutokea hapo kwenye mnara alimimina risasi mfululizo kwa makomando wa Israel na moja ya risasi hizi ilimpaka Koamando Yonatan Netanyahu ambaye ndiye alikuwa kiongozi wa ‘unit’ ya Sayeret Matkal iliyopo hapoa na alipoteza uhai pale pale. Wanajeshi wa Isarel walijibu mapigo kwa kurusha bomu la roketi ndogo ya begani na kusambaratisha kabisa kiota cha mnara na kumuua mwanajeshi wa Uganda aliyekuwa anawashambulia. Baada ya hapo waliwapakia kwenye ndege mateka wote ambao waliokolewa pamoja na miili ya Waisrael ambao walifariki kwenye majibizano hayo ya risasi. Kisha ili kuhakikisha kuwa hakuna ndege itakayowafuatia nyuma wakiondoka au kushambuliwa, walilipua ndege zote za jeshi la Uganda ambazo zilikuwa uwanjani hapo. Oparesheni yote hii ilichukua takribani dakika 53 ambapo dakika 30 pekee ndio zilikuwa za mapigano na 23 zilizosalia zilikuwa za kupakia mateka walio okolewa na kuondoka. Mpaka kufikia mwishio mwa oparesheni, jumla ya watekaji wote 7 walikuwa wameuwawa, pia wanajeshi 45 wa jeshi la Uganda walikuwa wameuwawa pia. Lakini pia ndege za kijeshi 11 aina ya MiG-17 na Mig-21 zililipuliwa na makomando wa Isarel. Ikumbukwe kwamba ndege hizi ndizo zilikuwa ni ndege zote za kijeshi ambazo zilikuwa zinamilikiwa na jeshi la anga la Uganda. Hii inaonyesha moja kati ya mapungufu makubwa ya kiuongozi ya Amin. Hakukuwa na busara yoyote au faida yoyote ya kimkakati kuweka ndege zote za jeshi lako la anga kwenye uwanja wa ndege wa kiraia ili kulinda mateka wa tukio ambalo wengine walikuwa wanaweza kuliona kama tukio la kigaidi na kwa namna Fulani kama ugomvi ambao ulikuwa haumuhusu moja kwa moja. Katika mateka wote 106 waliobakia (kumbuka nilieleza kuwa kulikuwa na mikupuo miwili ya mateka wasio wa Kiisrael au asili ya Kiyahudi waliachiwa kwa kupelekwa na ndege ufaransa nchini), kwahiyo kati ya wale 106 waliobakio, mateka watatu waliuwawa muda wa mapambano (hawa ndio wale ambao walikuwa hawaelewi kihebrania kwa ufasaha na kwa hiyo hawakulalala chini kama ilivyoamrishwa na makomando wa Israel), na mateka mmoja bibi wa miaka 74 aliyeitwa Dora Bloch aliachwa akiwa Hospitali mjini Entebbe ambako alipelekwa na Amin siku kadhaa nyuma kutokana na kuhitaji uangalizi maalumu wa kidaktari. Kati ya Makomando wa Isarel, ni mmoja tu ndiye aliuwawa tena dakika za mwisho (Yonatan Netanyahu) japo pia kuna makomando wengine kama watano ambao walijeruhiwa. Kifo cha kiongozi wa ‘unit’ ya Sayeret Mitkal, Yonatan Netanyahu katika oparesheni hii ndio iliyofanya siku kadhaa baadae oparesheni hii pia kubatizwa jina la OPERATION YONATAN kwa heshima yake na ushujaa wake wa kutoa maisha yake ili kutetea na kuooa roho za raia alioapa kuwalinda. Baada ya kila kitu kuwekwa sawa na watu wote kupanda ndani ya ndege, waliruka mpaka Nairobi Kenya kwa mapumziko mafupi ili kutibia wale ambao walijeruhiwa (kama ambavyo nilieleza kuwa ile moja ya Boeing 707 iliyotengwa kama ‘hospitali’ ilibaki Nairobi). Baada ya matibabu hapo Nairobi, madege yote yaliruka kurudi Israel. Kwa kifupi operation hii was a big SUCCESS.! Japokuwa baada ya ulimwengu mzima kutangaziwa juu ya kilichotokea, juu ya ‘umafia’ uliofanywa na Israel, ulimwengu uligawanyika kila nchi ukiunga mkono upande fulani, lakini nchi nyingi ziliunga mkono Israel kwa matumizi ya jeshi katika nchi nyingine, wengi walimlaumu Amin kwa kushindwa kutumia diplomasia kumaliza mzozo huu. Ajabu ni kwamba mwezi huo wa July, Mkuu wa Majeshi wa Iran moja wa mahsimu wa siku zote wa Israel aliandika barua kwa Waziri mkuu wa Israel kumpongeza kuhusu Oparation hiyo na kumpa pole kwa kifo cha Yonatan Netanyahu akimuita Yonatan kumsifu kuwa ni ‘martyr’. Vyovyote vile ambavyo unaweza kuitazama oparesheni hii kwenye jicho la kisiasa ua kidiplomasia, kwamba kama ilikuwa ni sahihi au si sahihi lakini katika jicho la kijeshi na ujasusi hii ni moja ya oparesheni murua kabisa kuwahi kufanyika katika historia ya majeshi duniani. Moja ya manguli wa “ulimwengu wa giza”, Bw. Henry Kissinger aliwahi kutamka kuwa hii ilikuwa ni “an immposible mission”! Umaridadi wa oparesheni hii umefanya hata vitengo kadhaa vya weledi vya majeshi mbali mbali kutaka kuiga mfano wake lakini bila mafanikio yoyote. Kwa mfano Wamarekani walijaribu kuiga umaridadi wa Oparesheni hii na kufanya ya kwao iliyoitwa Oparation Eagle Claw baada ya kutokea kwa utekeaji kwenye ubalozi wa Iran lakini oparesheni hiyo ilifeli vibaya. Sasa hivi kama wewe ni mwanajeshi katika jeshi fulani kwenye kitengo cha weledi (special force) au labda ni jasusi maalumu, lazima katika hatua fulani ya japo hata ‘darasani’ kwenye makaratasi utafundwa kuhusu Oparetion Entebbe na namna ilivyo tekelezwa. Oparesheni hii ilimuacha Amin na aibu kubwa kiasi kwamba akaendelea kufanya vitu ambavyo vilidhihirisha udhaifu wake wa kiungozi. Kwa mfano, yule bibi wa miaka 74 aliyeachwa hospitali mjini Entebbe, aliamuru auwawe kinyama. Lakini pia Amin alisimami kuwawa kwa McKenzie yule waziri wa kilimo wa Kenya ambaye alimsaidia Ehud Barak kumshinikiza Mzee Jomo Kenyetta kuruhusu ndege za jeshi la Israel kutumia viwanja vya ndege vya Kenya wakati wa utekelezaji wa OParesheni hiyo na pia kumsaidi kukusanya Intelijensia kwa kutumia ndege yake binafsi. McKenzie aliuwawa kwa bomu lililotegwa kwenye gari yake. Pia Amin alisimamia ulipuaji kwa bomu moja ya hoteli kubwa Nairobi kipindi hicho ambayo ilikuwa inaitwa The Norfolk Hotel, ambayo ilimilikiwa na moja ya wayahudi mashuhuri nchini Kenya.
